Youth Mission To USA 2006

Youth Mission to USA 2006

Update 9 - 27/09 22:41 local time

The final update of our trip. Another good day although we are all now very tired. This morning in the US was 'See you at the Pole day' where American students gather around their school flag pole first thing in the morning and pray for their school. So we thought we would join some students and pray with them. We were all up at 6:55a.m. and in the van together. Unfortuantley 30 minutes later we were all still in the van looking for the school. We never found it - but we did have a nice early morning sight seeing trip which was not quite appreciated by all the group!

This afternoon we drove out about 20 minutes and worked on a house a missionary couple have just bought and are doing up. This evening myself and the worship team were at Pastor Tom Owens church with their youth group and the others stayed with the First Assembly group. Both meetings went well with all the team sharing a testimony.

Tomorrow we have just enough time to nip to the mall for some last minute shopping and then we are on our way home.

We are going to try and get an earlier flight out of Cleveland to give us more chance of making our connection in Newark. At the moment there are lots of seats available on the earlier plane but we won't know for sure until we get to the airport. Please pray we all get on the earlier flight and for a safe journey all the way home.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon

Adam

Update 8 - 27/09 07:45 local time

Yesterday was a great day of blessing. The girls all got their hair done at a professional salon for free. (The cost for what one of them got done would have been $180 if they had paid!) Praise God they were treated just how God sees them - as His princesses. Some of them were overcome by how blessed they were and it was a great picture of how God gives back to us when we seek His Kingdom first.

The boys painted a room in the church all afternoon whilst the girls got their hair done and did it with a great servant heart. The girls commented afterwards that the grace of the boys do work whilst they got blessed blew them away.

I have to say that it's been an amazing privilidge to see what God is doing in and through every single member of the team.

Whilst the boys were painting and the girls were being blessed I (Adam)was with Paul. We had various meetings with a number of different pastors all of which went well.

Update 7 - 26/09 01:45 local time

Just back from a great day at Niagara Falls . Got extremely wet but had an excellent time. We can now say we have visited Canada as well as the US. We had a very blessed day with no issues going over the border and back again and we didn't get lost once - quite an achievement for a 400 mile round trip - Praise God.

The team is still very much together and having fun. We received a lovely phone call today to say that a hairdresser in the church (First Assembly) would like to bless all the girls by doing their hair for them!

Jonathan flew back this afternoon and tomorrow Paul is meeting Pastor Louis and then is at a leaders meeting with Pastor Tom Owens in the evening. I will be accompanying Paul tomorrow whilst the team do more practical work at First Assembly (or get their hair done).

Continue to pray - God is doing great things in us and through us. I was talking to a couple of the team today and it's great to hear what they are learning and picking up about themselves and Him.

Trust you are well. Every blessing

Adam

Update 6 - 24/09 22:19 local time

Another fantastic day over here in Cleveland. The team, Paul and Jonathan were all at Faith Victory Centre this morning with Pastors Jo & Carmella Hayes. Pastor Jo preached on David & Goliath and gave an excellent word on slaying the enemy. Paul, Jon and I (Adam) then prayed for the leaders of the churches represented (3 different ones).

We had lunch at Jo and Carmella's house all together and then the team came back to First Assembly for a night of worship. Our Youth Band led the first 3 songs really well despite the sound person turning up 5 mins before it started! The worship leader from a church down the road then led us in some gospel praise which was an experience we won't forget in a hurry - it was truly awesome!

Paul and Jon have ministered tonight at Pastor Tom Owens church and I'm sure they will have had a great time. Tomorrow Jon is leaving and Paul is ministering to the leaders at First Assembly in the evening.

Sam Rowe (Isaac's brother who was with us in Shipley a few months back)has now joined us and he will be with us for the rest of the trip.

We are still having lots of fun and enjoyng ministering to people. We have been very well looked after here and have been realy blessed by Pastor Clint's generosity and hospitality.

We are a little fed up of eating pizza (it's all the kids here eat when they go out) and fed up of leaving mountains of food despite stuffing our faces every time we eat. It's a good job they only charge excess baggage on suitcases and not bodies! Relationships are still great and God has been so good in keeping us all together and focussed. Please keep praying - it's only because of your prayers that things are going so well.

Tomorrow we are going to Niagara Falls to see the sights. Please pray for a safe journey (it's an 8 hour round trip) and general fun for the day.

Every blessing

Adam

Update 5 - 23/09 23:17 local time

Hey mighty people of God, how you doin??? After 3 hours of physclogical testing we have come to the conclusion Adam is a D/I I'm(Josh) a S/D Naths a S/I/D and Nath H is a D/I/C. Or atleast thats what the profiles we have been examining this morning at the spiritual gifts seminar say. We studied personality profiles whilst eating muffins, bagels, cinnamon cake, cinnamon drink, cinnamon bagel, cinnamon coffee, and cinnamon swirl's. Man they even put cinnamon in dog food!!

This aft we spent a few hours doing various practical tasks around the church, me and nath m mastered the art of spackeling, we covered the whole room in plaster, and naths t-shirt. The girls packed more books for Africa and some cleared out the kitchen which now looks spotless.

Tonight adam n 3 other's went to Faith Victory Center to listen to my dad preach, whilst the rest stayed in and made food for the homeless ministry, we then played flash light tig, which was more like hide and seek and try to scare people as they walked past you. Me and nath worked well as a SAS elite team, we recovered the package and also eliminated numerous hostiles. Transimssion OVER.....

Update 4 - 22/09 23:30 local time

Ice skating and I don't seem to go very well together. In attempting to be the coolest dude on the block (you can see I'm picking up the lingo) I managed to send my whole body skywards landing solidly on my back - twice! Ah well, the joys of leading a youth team.

We had a great night this evening going ice-skating with the young people from First Assembly. After skating we then went back to Pastor Clint's house to eat (yet more) pizza. It was a good time of building friendships. This afternoon the boys shovelled lots of bark chippings onto the play area in the church grounds and the girls sorted lots of books into boxes that are going out to Africa.

Tomorrow we are doing more practical help in First Assembly working alongside the young poeple again followed by a cookout (aka BBQ) in the evening. Some of the team are staying for the cookout and a game of flashlight tig (whatever that is) and others are going to Faith Victory where Paul and Jonathan are ministering.

Thanks for your prayers and the messages on the searchonthechurch forums. It's great to read your encouragements.

Adam

Update 3 - 22/09 00:40 local time

We have just got back from Church on the North Coast having had a great time. We led the youth service where over 140 11-18 year olds were present. Our youth band led worship and most were involved in a mime. I then shared the Word and we had the privilidge of being able to pray with the young people as they responded to the message of God's desire to see them achieve their dreams. The whole team worked in pairs to pray for people and did a great job ministering to those who had responded.

Tomorrow sees us doing practical helps in First Assembly and then out for ice skating and food with the young people. Relationships in the team are really good and we are having lots of fun as well.

Once again thanks so much for praying.

Adam

Update 2 - 21/09 08:45 local time

Well the plan to update this every evening fell over already, but that's because we didn't get in until 11:00pm last night and combined with the jet lag we are pretty tired!

Last night was an excellent night. Josh, Nath, Amy and Faye led the worship excellently, all the girls performed a dance and Nath H gave a great testimony.

Paul ministered on the theme of giving not getting and we prayed for a number of people. After the meeting we went out to Pizza Hut with the young people from First Assembly and had a great time getting to know them.

Today we are driving 1 hour to go to Church on the North Coast (Pastor Louis and Tina's church). Paul and Jonathan are ministering at the adults event and the youth team are taking the Youth Service.

Please pray for strength and energy as many of us are quite tired already despite 2 good nights sleep. The jet lag will wear off soon! We are holding on to Isaiah 40:28-31 which was given to us before we left and beleiving that as we wait on the LORD He will supply our every need.

PLease keep praying for good health which we are seeing and protection as we travel about.

Thanks for your prayers

Adam

Update 1 - 19/09 22:05 local time

Well we eventually all got to Cleveland. Our flight from Manchester to Newark was over an hour late which meant that we missed our connecting flight to Cleveland and had to wait for the next one so we arrived in Cleveland 3 hours later than planned.

Nevertheless we arrived safely at First Assembly to find stacks of food and our beds all prepared for us. Tomorrow in the evening is a mid week meeting at First Assembly where we are leading the worship and perfoming a drama / mime and Paul will be speaking. Please pray that everyone is well rested - tomorrow the hard work starts!
